An order including eight new Boeing 777 freighters has been placed by DHL Express, according to the global shipping company’s announcement on January 12, 2021, in order to further modernize its aircraft fleet and expand the cargo shipping network.

“With the order of eight new wide-body freighter aircraft, we underline our conviction that e-commerce is an enduring megatrend. This is why we decided to act early and kick-off 2021 with this investment in our future,” said John Pearson, the company’s chief executive officer (CEO).

With the help of excellent payload capabilities and flying range of the Boeing 777, DHL Express hopes to lower associated landing costs for those long-haul flying routes and offers the lowest trip charge of any large cargo freighter.

Founded in 1969, DHL has become the world’s leading logistics company. Today it has 380,000 employees working in over 220 countries and territories delivering over 1.5 billion parcels per year.
